Academic Continuity Plan (ACP)
Teaching and ensuring student learning and progress in your courses during times of campus disruption requires creative and innovative thinking about how you can support students. While disruptions can happen for a number of reasons, remaining flexible in the ways you support students in achieving course learning outcomes is critical. The Academic Continuity Plan (ACP) offers pedagogical suggestions and tools for instructors at Eastern Kentucky University interested in continuing to offer student learning experiences remotely via online environments.
Before considering the most effective technology to use when taking your class(es) online, first determine if a synchronous or asynchronous delivery would be best for your students. Consider two options for facilitating instruction remotely. Base your approach on the learning outcomes you have designed for your students:

Synchronous: In this method of delivery, the instructor and students gather at the same time using a web-based platform. Instruction occurs in “real time.” See the technology section of the ACP for options.

Asynchronous: In this method of delivery, instruction is not occuring at the same time. The instructor prepares course materials, learning tools, or supplemental information (such as videos) in advance of the point at which students access it. Students then access these materials as their schedules allow or within a stated window.
